How to Be Liked After Being Hated

If you have been in a situation where people have hated you, it can be hard to feel strong enough to find your way back into favor and to start again. This article provides some suggested ways that you can use to slowly regain your place in a group of friends, a social group, or wherever you may have experienced this problem.

Steps

  1. 1
Avoid being obnoxious. This can be a fall-back defense mechanism to keep people away from you. Not only will it keep people away from you but it will also perpetuate their dislike. Be stronger than this and keep away from making remarks that you think are funny but are just rude or pointless.

  1. 2
Avoid being a "loudmouth". People don't want to hear from you right now, not after the event that caused them to dislike you. Being opinionated right now will only put people's noses out of joint and will not restore their confidence in you. Instead, remain laid back and easygoing for now.
  2. 3
Be patient. It will take a while to get that old reputation and the new "better you" reputation to form. There will be some people who continue to hold the matter that brought on your being disliked against you. Avoid plaguing them with your presence for a time to let them chill out. And simply plug away at what you are good at, using your skills and talents to keep yourself occupied and useful.
  3. 4
Use small talk. Talk to different people about different things. Some of those people you will find are very forgiving, or never even cared what caused you to be hated in the first place. These people are likely to be open to you and will be a source of regaining your confidence. And likely you'll make new, non-judgmental friends.

Tips

  • Try to adapt a charming or nice personality that will blend well with others' personalities.

Warnings

  • Don't be nosy and want to know what's going on all the time.
  • Try to be friendly to everyone but not attention seeking, even if you don't like that person, it will help with the others.
